Composer facilitates a conversation about how the resulting SharePoint portal will be structured and provides the ability to then build the design scenario automatically. Business Sponsors and Executives can test out the scenario in a real SharePoint environment to determine if the design meets requirements, make adjustments in the design canvas as necessary, and rebuild.
SharePoint 2010 configuration, without a tool such as Composer, is a complex and time consuming process.
